Aimee Freeman Week 6 (Song: "Try" by Colbie Caillat)

"Try"
Put your make up on
Get your nails done
Curl your hair
Run the extra mile
Keep it slim
So they like you. Do they like you?

Get your sexy on
Don't be shy, girl
Take it off
This is what you want, to belong
So they like you. Do you like you?

You don't have to try so hard
You don't have to give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don't have to change a single thing

You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i
You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i
You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i
You don't have to try
Yoooou don't have to try

Ooooo, oooooo, oooooo...

Get your shopping on,
At the mall,
Max your credit cards
You don't have to choose,
Buy it all
So they like you. Do they like you?

Wait a second,
Why should you care, what they think of you
When you're all alone, by yourself
Do you like you? Do you like you?

You don't have to try so hard
You don't have to give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don't have to change a single thing

You don't have to try so hard
You don't have to bend until you break
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don't have to change a single thing

You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i
You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i
You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i
You don't have to try

You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i
You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i
You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i
You don't have to try
Yoooou don't have to try

Oooooo, oooooo
Oooooo, oooooo

You don't have to try so hard
You don't have to give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don't have to change a single thing

You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i
You don't have to try, try, try, try-i-i
You don't have to try
You don't have to try

Take your make up off
Let your hair down
Take a breath
Look into the mirror, at yourself
Don't you like you?
Cause I like you

  1. The song fits nicely into your compositions, and it seems like you enjoyed yourself in this shoot. The quality of light throughout your pictures are nice; however, I suggest you explore more angles and formal qualities that we described in class that can improve the quality of your work. Good Job.

  2. The depth of field on the third picture of the eye is really interesting and inviting. Your pictures illustrate your song really well, but I would suggest using more compositional elements, such as texture, pattern, and symmetry.

  3. I think that your fourth photo (the one of the nails being painted) was most successful because of the lighting. I enjoy the high contrast as well as your composition! The emphasis on the index finger works well.

  4. the painting of the nails is great because its great contrast. I also think the up close of the eye is great and use of rule of thirds was a good call.

  5. You did a great job photographing your narrative. I agree with Marina. Your fourth shot was your most successful one. The contrast between the nail polish, shadows, and light colored desk all work very well. However, I am having trouble recognizing which compositional elements are being intentionally used in the last 3 portraits.

  6. Your images of the model's features (hands, eye, head) are the most compelling compositions in relation to the song, rather than the traditional portraits.

  7. If I'm understanding this right, I think you were able to isolate the subject of the eye very well. The background cannot be distinguished and there is a strong contrast between the pale skin and the dark background. Great work and what a great shot of the eye, it was awesome that you were able to get the detail of the iris.

  8. The strongest photos are certainly the third and fourth in the set. The third photo has an effective use of depth of field and contrast with the black background. The fourth isolates the hands well within the frame and has an interesting texture/pattern. Perhaps the shadow at the top of the fourth could be removed in order to further isolate the hands.

  9. I agree with Ian that the third and fourth photo are your strongest. They have the most dynamic contrast that highlight what you’re trying to depict. I think that the last four photos feel a bit repetitive and that you could have explored more compositions to have a more diverse display of the formal elements as it doesn’t really feel that focused on them.

  10. i love the angle you used to capture your models face in the 2nd photo that lead to a sense of upward and "automatic" direction. i also think its interesting how the first set of portraits, although seemingly just as light hearted, present sort of a darker mood compared to the more traditional portraits at the bottom that are filled with light and a more excitable expression compared to the irregular angles and dark background which creates a sense of contrast in ur first set of images.
