Week 13 - Hannah Holmes

I did this week for my Florida story, which will be on anxiety.  For these pictures, I pulled events and feelings from my own experiences.

in this one ^ I used a plastic bag wrapped around my lens to distort it

  1. Hannah, I think these are a good attempt. Your first 2 images are the most striking for me. I get a sense of anxiety. The scenes with your model only work if you are particular of the background and what the model is doing. The image of her in the shower works but I wish the compositions were more aesthetically pleasing. I can see where you are going though so thats good, now lets push the content further.

  2. I enjoy seeing the theme of anxiety in the first few images, and how the texture of the water pops with the picture. I hope to see you push this concept even further.

  3. Using stop motion for the 9th shot of the shower was a nice choice. I feel as if I've intruded upon a very specific moment of anxiety that's been locked in time.

  4. There is a lot of variation of compositions, angles, and values. Though these are all thematically cohesive, each photo is visually very different from the next - something that I thing your series really benefits from. You did a great job experimenting with reflections, as well as using extremely dark values, which plays into your narrative well. Overall, great work!

  5. I must say I'm a great model. The first photo creates a mysterious and ominous scene that works successfully for your theme. The 6th photo seems to touch on the anxious turmoil and pain that may or may not be apparent. Great work and I can't wait to see the further development.

  6. Im pleased that your photos have different subjects and focal points bc it makes the series more interesting. the first photo is so satisfying and the silhouette of the hand is powerful.

  7. You have some really nice photos here. A lot of these work within your theme while some of them don't communicate the same theme you're going for. Sierra being sadboy in the shower makes me feelboy, #relatable. The 5th and 8th photo confuse me and are the weakest of your images. The rest are successful in their goal. I think you could experiment with some more abstract angles and really distort the images as if the world has anxiety. Perhaps a natural progression in your images could be from a more calm state of anxiety to full blown panic attack?

  8. I do get the sense of narrative from these photos. That plastic bag trick was pretty smart and the distorted border adds to a sense of anxiety. The eighth photo's use of positive/negative space to add layers to the composition was very well accomplished.

  9. your first and last images are my favorite and i really enjoy the shower stop motion photo, however i think it would have benefited from either a more composed or immediate and slightly invasive angle. i also think you would benefit from some more distinct lighting in some of your photos like your 6th which seems pretty neutral despite the conceptually polar theme.

  10. Great use of texture in the shower photos. You also demonstrated quality of light with the spotlight shining on your model. Your contrast in the second photo is very strong.
