MARINA BURKE WEEK 13

SO this is the first chapter of my Floridian story. The antagonist, Zak, is "stuck" within the realm of technology. I wanted it to be like Black Mirror-y. He's offered an out, and in the next 10 chapters will discover himself in the Floridian nature. Still developing and conceptualizing the idea, but here's the start.

  1. This concept works really well! Also, the contrast in the second picture is really evident. The eighth picture is really well framed and captures the smoke perfectly. I would work on more variety of shots, especially the ones with the technology (considering the second and fourth pictures are almost the same).

  2. I very much enjoy how the smoke comes out in the pictures. I think the 7th and 8th pictures turned out really successfully. I like how the shadow came out on the wall.

  3. Marina, if I am correct, you are positioning marijana as his escape? then I think that is an opportunity for you to delve deeply into surrealistic photos. Your first images are great but I would like stronger aesthetic compositions. The portraits of your subject are robbed of their full potential by them being against plain backgrounds, that may be a choice to isolate the subject but it does nothing for the composition. The theme is there though, and that's great news. Lets push it more.

  4. FIRST OF ALL, NO ONE PASSES A BLUNT LIKE THAT. lol other than that I think your concept is strong and is developing nicely. Your second image plays excellently with contrast and your eighth image was really well captured in the idea that marijuana blurs perspective in a way with one eye covered with the smoke. Overall great work and I can't wait to see how the next chapters unfold.

  5. The second one is very spooky and well done!!! The grain in it might be a result of not having enough light, but it still works very well because the parts where the grain is noticeable is on the screen, which makes it look like it's part of the screen's static. With that said, the grain in the first photo doesn't work because it's obvious that there wasn't enough lighting. However, the perspective at which it was taken at made things more interesting and I liked that I could see the "No Signal!" reflected in his glasses.

  6. The progression of this series is really exciting. Your first several images are very geometric with lighting from digital screens, whereas your last images are very organic because of the smoke. Great job with the narrative and great use of overall contrast!

  7. I definitely think the theme allows you to delve in to a more interesting 2nd series to continue with this idea. the contrast is what is working for most of your images and the first photo with the reflection is nice!

  8. Between the second and fourth photos the second is definitely the stronger version. The use of the smoke helps to generate interesting and directionless forms which add to this narrative.
The eighth photo evolved for me once I realized that his left eye was covered by smoke.

  9. omg fcuk im yelling these are so (gOod). your first image is so captivating and insane,, the graininess of the photo really complements the TV theme in it. the progression of your photos is very foggy but not in that it's unclear but rather oncoming and smooth. also your use of shadow in all these photos is very appropriate and supportive in that it fills up space that leads to the main subject of your photo. overall and as ive said you did a great job my only critique is tht nobody rlly does pass a blunt like tht lmao

  10. Digging your theme. One thing I noticed is how the earlier images bounce between a 2D and 3D environment. I think that this could be an interesting intention to mess around with if you choose to explore it (such as reordering the images so that the beginning of the stories is a flat, 2D-esque world with no 3dimensionality and then evolving into a more developed 3D space as seen in the 1st image, ultimately leading up to the open wide spaces of nature.

  11. Great use of your quality of light the shadows are very well photographed. The contrast in your photos is very strong. I really like the silhouette photos and I think your theme was very well thought out
