Swimming pools!

  1. These pictures really do well to convey a sense of loneliness! Your framing and lines work well, but I would continue to push yourself to get more "wow" framing. The lines work really well in the sixth picture, with the string of flags and the beams. I would consider adding even more contrast to your images because it would add more interest to the reflections on the water.

  2. Jenna, when you choose pools as your subject, you have to think about how they signify a Floridian story. These are commercial pools, athletic facilities, they in no way communicate the character or persona of Florida that I think you are trying to achieve. I would look at domestic pools, abandoned pools, natural pools etc.

  3. I enjoy seeing your work with the reflections and all. Good job doing so. I think that you need to continue to push the floridian story and the concept of pools in further, imagine what FL pools really look like and what is that story.

  4. I really like your attention to the fixtures/ objects involved in the pool settings along with the patterns and symmetry that they also provide. The way that you chose to frame some of the shots (#2, 4, 6) resulted in very visually satisfying and geometric compositions.

  5. I find it interesting that these images focus on the geometry of pools and a poolside setting, despite water being a very organic subject matter. Maybe this is something to continue working with? I liked that my expectations of pool photos were challenged - instead of seeing bubbles or the texture of water I saw lines and flat reflections.

  6. your 8th photo is your strongest and the contrast and line definition is nicely shot. I think they can portray a sunny feel or maybe you want them to be dark and gloomy to be opposite of what you expect. still well shot photos.

  7. The 6th and 9th photos seem the most successful out of all of your pictures this week. In the 6th photo there is a this crazy movement from the vertical poles to the diagonal pool lines. The eye just keeps darting around the whole composition. The 9th photo was strikingntonmenin the capturing of the spider web in contrast with the background. Great way to capture the delicate structure of the web against the busy background.

  8. The 8th photo is most visually appealing with the lines of the pool and strong contrast. What is the story here? Where is the narrative, I think pools are cool and all but you can def beef this up. MAybe something SPICY happing in in the pool? Get creative :)

  9. These are really well taken images, as usual with your keen eye for design. The 10th image is particularly interesting in how the line of the chain fence parallels the lanes of the pool. I think that these images could potentially benefit from some context (where are these pools, who uses these pools, what is a pool, etc.).

  10. you always have a very keen eye for detail like in your 3rd and 4th images, followed up by bold photographs like your 2nd. composition wise this photoshoot is sound but i would push a concept to complement or even juxtapose the solemn calmness in these photos.

  11. The lack of people in this set contributes to the very somber feel I get when looking at the photos. Almost as if they had either already drowned or got bored of pools and no one goes to these places anymore. Good focus on geometric compositions. Perhaps some higher and lower angles could produce even more interesting forms.

  12. Great use of leading lines in your photos this week. I think you achieved your theme very well. The framing is also very strong.
