Aimee Freeman Week 12

  1. I really enjoy the use of compositional elements in these photos mostly how they trick my eye. I like how you took such simple objects and captured them in your photos, it is very intriguing to me. i especially liked how you played with geometric figures.

  2. You've created a sense of depth with the use of objects as representational shapes. In imgs 1, 2, 3, and 4, the envelopes function as shapes in a 3 dimensional space, and create a great sense of depth. It would be interesting to have different sizes of envelopes and at more extreme depths in the space.

  3. I appreciate the minimalistic quality of these photos and the contrast utilized. I agree with Marci, these everyday objects become something foreign and almost strange, especially in the first few images. The empty background creates depth which I think is your strongest element along with contrast. Also, I enjoy the forms you've created with these shapes!

  4. Amiee, I appreciate the effort made to work with abstraction this week. Firstly, you are using WAYYYYYY too much dodge and burn. (If you used it any more your pictures are gonna get away from you or catch a fire!! (badoom Ching!) jk jk. Your images are starting to glow, so be careful of that. Image 3 is the strongest for me, the reflection on the surfaces, with the angles and depth they create is really exciting. But I think your choice of objects is to your detriment, I would choose more abstract objects, but I like the approach you've been taking. The fake flower?? no way. It really trivializes your work. What about using objects with different tones, textures, and patterns? What would happen if there were stripes on the flat surfaces and the lines seemed to connect? or if there were various shades of grey, or high shine surfaces? and if you can't find, you can certainly create them!
    Good job.

  5. the third picture is almost ominous, the composition works really well. Also, the fifth one is pleasing with the sharp angles. However, the dodging is really obvious on the second and eight ones. If you continue with interesting compositions, this type of series can be even more successful!

  6. I think your compositions are very successful in working with abstraction and your setups provide very interesting perspective. I have to agree that your dodge and burn is somewhat too intense. Your second to last photo was very captivating to me in that it provides a strong sense of movement (leading line?) within your photo and touches on pattern a bit I would say.

  7. Oh also, I really enjoyed your first photo in this like endless like of foam peanuts, if you wanted to you it for texture I might even zoom in further or lightly dodge and burn to capture the crunchiness of those peanuts.

  8. Oh my lord I thought those packing peanuts were cheeto puffs...RIP. I agree that the dodge and burn on these photos is too intense. However, I like your exploration of various forms. This is a very minor detail but I really like the rings that are happening in your plastic cups in the tenth photos. I'm not talking about the rings/grooves that are a part of the cup. I'm talking about the rings that were created due to the flash/ lighting that you used.

  9. i love your photos this week, your 2nd 3rd and 4th are my favorite which also sort of remind me of helio oticicas work (great artist you should look him up if you planning on continuing this """angle""" of work). strong contrast throughout all your photos with certain emphasis on texture. I'm very interested in how you made these seemingly unorganized assemblages , for example 3 and 4, into uniform compositions. although texture is great i feel like your 4th photo would be stronger if it didnt have that much and was more "clean" and crisp, just like the edges of the envelope, and also the black background, infer. there are random textures in some of your backgrounds that take away from the subject but overall i think you did a great job this week.

  10. obsessed with the envelopes!! I think that positioning them oddly was a clever way of making them more interesting! the contrast is jumping out at me more than symmetry in the one where they're laying down but still very strong work

  11. Really nice subject choices this week. The staging in the 3rd and 4th images are very beautiful and really abstract that they are just envelopes as they take on the form of just rectangles and lines. They work so nicely because they feel effortless yet clearly intentional while your 6th image does not carry that same effortless consistency as it feels like a more forced and inorganic composition. The textured background in your photos also takes away from the organic abstractions that you were able to create as the texture roots them back to a more realistic context, competing with your beautiful abstractions.

  12. I think the contrast in these photos and quality of light aere what makes them unique and intriguing. Your use of abstract objects to create these figures and subjects in your photos is so well done and different. they look like negatives to me and I'm here for it. Well done

  13. This photo set allows the objects to evolve beyond their normal visual existences in order to become abstracted geometric forms. The envelopes are quadrilaterals, the cups are cylinders. This leads to successful compositions, particularly in part to the black background that you used to form legible contrast. Perhaps the first photo could use some editing to form greater contrast?
