I think your 8th photo is your strongest one. You showed great use of contrast in your photos. In some of them I think the framing could’ve been better.
First, this looks like so much fun. I really enjoy how i could feel in the moment with these pictures, and how the last one looks like a silhouette. I also enjoy how I could see the sparkle in the water. GJ
The contrast caused by the quality of light in your 7th and 10th photos are stunning. I love seeing the sparkling water against the silhouettes of the people.
The "sparkling" look of the water and the people's silhouettes look awesome in your pictures! I agree with Aimee, the eight photo is your best because of the framing and the light captured in the wave itself.
The first photo I couldn't tell that the silhouette was a person and I thought it was a beautiful piece in abstraction. The silhouetted figures create great contrast with the clear water and I see you working with asymmetry.
THE 8TH PHOTO IS GNARLY BRO. You used stop motion super well, and it was just perfectly exposed and captured the moment and clean barrel. The contrast between the wetsuit and the wave really makes it eye catching.
Its interesting to see how you capture such an organic subject matter versus your usual architectural pattern approach in past photos. I think the choices with how you framed/composed each image is awkward, but in a successful way. It leaves the feeling of anonymity in each person as their legs or head is cut off, with an attempt to capture the immensity of the ocean by occupying the entire frame.
Your crops are really interesting, they add an edge to the overall photo that I believe takes it away from being a photo of people surfing to a tasteful composition of forms. The lack of care for capturing the entirety of their bodies creates visual interest and removes their identity, reducing them to only lines and forms. I'm just overall intrigued in how you were able to make surfing look artistically tasteful. aWESOME PICS D00D
i love how you made the horizon/ ocean your own personal backdrop in capturing these ~gnarly~~~ mmoments. still motion is also super apparent and important in all your photos and i love how almost all your subjects have silhouette-like qualities (some of them are legit silhouettes that could probably fit into those early 2000's ipod ads). you did a really great job at capturing a simple surfing day at the beach by utilizing only a few compositional elements which i think is to your advantage as to not overload the viewer with visual information and details and rather have us focus on the image as a singular entity. great job !!!! :)

ReplyDeleteI think the natural lines correspond nicely with the organic feeling portrayed not only from the surfers but the movement of the water.
