As a series, I think this is a successful exploration of a construction site. However, in my opinion, your strongest images are those that do not directly read as construction site, such as the last one. Great use of depth of field, especially in the 2nd image because the blurred imagery in the background is not unnecessary information -- everything in the photo relates to your theme.
Perhaps the most successful component of this set is the way in which visual 'noise' was kept out of the photos, allowing the subjects (e.g. the flag, the bottle, the glasses) to be identified easily. The second photo gives a strong sense of direction towards the viewer, and presents some interesting texture in the frayed fabric.
I enjoy how you incorporated the key compositional elements in your photos. Specifically the texture you used in the 2,6,8 pictures, like I could feel the rough/sharpness of it.
It was a very interesting choice to photograph and explore a construction site. Most of us would just pass it by without a second thought. I love the symmetry of the first photo and the asymmetry of the second photo that's caused by the American flag.
You exploration of man made and construction is very interesting for this week. The second photo has a great sense of shallow depth of field where you capture the tearing of the mesh fabric but still keep the cones in the frame.
Great use of pattern and texture in this shoot. I think the photo of the water would be better executed if you could of reflected some light off the water. Well done though!
This is a good intro into the construction theme. I wish that you would have dove deeper into the theme and capture things that wouldn't normally be seen (sneek in and steal their secrets). Either that, or manipulate some things in the compositions so that there is clear intention in what you are shooting and why you are shooting it.
i think the blur motion of the caution tape in your 9th photo is the most interesting and although all these photos are technically sound (in love with the symmetry or rather asymmetry if you look close enough in your 1st photo) i think you should push this theme more and try to capture a more unique perspective into what im assuming is ur theme which is construction. overall and like i said, there are some great examples of the compositional elements we learned in class (isolation of that bottle in your 5th image is super pleasing to look at) i just recommend that you try to build upon your concept by possibly adding your own personal twist or showing us a perspective that is not just technically sound but conceptually intriguing.

ReplyDeleteGreat use of texture in your 6th and 8th images! You have great balance in all of your photos and the theme is very strong.

ReplyDeleteI can tell there's a careful attention to detail in repetition and symmetry, especially in the first image.
ReplyDeleteThe theme is there and you captured aspects of constructing that is sometimes overlooked. I think there is more exploration available in this theme.
